Grammar review of the tenses

Present Perfect 

• A state of affairs is described as being relative to the present time
• In other words, something that started in the past but is still relevant in the present
• For example, I have lived in the Netherlands for over thirty-five years.
• Look whether you can use the word 'al' in your translation.
• For example, Ik woon al meer dan vijfendertig jaar in Nederlands. 
• Key words: for, yet, never, ever, just, already, since

Present Perfect:

Wat is de regel qua spelling van de present perfect?

1. ww+ - ed
2. shit = ww+-s
3. vorm van to be + ww+-ing
4. have/has + voltooid deelwoord (3e rijtje)

PRESENT PERFECT:
Which sentence uses the present perfect?

1. She had been working until late.
2. She have been working until late.
3. She has worked until late.
4. She has been working until late.

Present Perfect Continuous

• The emphasis is that the action has been taking a while, it begins in the past and the effect is until the present
• For example, James has been teaching at the university since June
• Key words are 'recently' and 'lately' 
• For example, She has been watching too much television lately.

Hoe maak je de Present Perfect Continuous?

1. have/has+ voltooid deelwoord
2. have/has + been + werkwoord+ing
3. werkwoord + ing
4. werkwoord + ed

She has been learning French recently.

She has visited six countries so far.

We use the Present Perfect Continuous for:

1. Verleden gebeurd, resultaat is zichtbaar
2. Verleden gebeurd, resultaat is niet zichtbaar
3. Verleden gebeurd, nog steeds bezig, duurde lang
4. Verleden begonnen, niet meer bezig.

Past Simple

• Is used to show that a completed action took place at a specific time in the past
• For example, I walked to school yesterday. 
• I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.
• Regular verbs: [verb] + [ed]

What is the rule for the past simple?

1. ww+ed
2. ww+voltooid deelwoord
3. ww+ing
4. Key words such as last year, yesterday, 2 years ago
