THE CONTINUOUS FORM
Present continuous:
I am talking!
Vorm van 'to be' + stam + ing

Wanneer? Als iets nu gebeurt, het duurt wat langer. Ook: als iets irritant is! You are always talking!

Past continuous
  • How do we make the past continuous?
  • The past tense of to be + -ing form of a verb

  • We were making dinner when she arrived.
  • My head was aching.
  • The town was changing quickly
  • Wanneer? Bij 2 gebeurtenissen tegelijkertijd, waarvan eentje al aan de gang is. De ander gebeurt dan 'plots'.

Present perfect continuous
He  has been waiting for the bus for ages!
Hoe: present perfect van 'to be' (have/has + been) + stam+ing
Wanneer: Om te benadrukken dat iets al heel lang bezig is!

Past perfect continuous
We use the past perfect continuous to talk about ongoing actions that began before another action in the past.
When I got to the party, my friends had been dancing for more than an hour.
The past perfect continuous is formed with the past perfect of the verb to be (had (not) been) + the -ing form of the main verb.
