What is Copyright?

  • Copyright is a legal right that protects original works of authorship, such as books, music, art, designs, and even software.
  • It ensures the creator has control over how their work is used and shared.

What is Creative Commons?

  • Creative Commons is a system that allows creators to share their work with others legally while keeping some rights reserved.
  • It gives people permission to use, share, or build on someone’s work without breaking copyright laws.

Types of Creative Commons Licences
CC BY
Others can use your work as long as they credit you.

CC BY-SA (ShareALike)
This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use.
CC BY-NC (NonCommercial)
This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator.
CC BY-NC-SA (NonCommercial-ShareAlike)

This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator.
CC BY-ND (NoDerivs)

  - Wikimedia Commons (images).
  - Open Educational Resources (OER).
  - Free design tools for trades (e.g., CAD files).
- Look for the CC logo and licence type.
