Slide 6 - Quiz

Characteristics of Bacteria
Bacteria are unicellular
They come in different shapes: rods, spheres, spirals

All bacteria cells have:
  • NO nucleus (they do have DNA)
  • Cell wall
Uni = 1 cellular = cells
The entire organism consists out of one cell
You don't need to learn all parts of this cell.
Only that:
It has no nucleus,
It has a cell wall

Slide 7 - Slide

Useful bacteria
Most bacteria are useful:
  • Help digest food in our intestines
  • Kill harmful bacteria on our skin
  • Feed on dead organisms
  • Can be used in making food: Yoghurt, Sauerkraut

Slide 9 - Slide

Harmful bacteria
  • Cause diseases
  • Spoil food
Antibiotics (like penicillin) kill bacteria
