Guidelines SE 1 period 4
Topic: you are allowed to use a similar topic as used in practice essay one. However, the thesis question should be different and your are not allowed to copy parts of the practice essays.  Also, you are NOT allowed to use education.

For example: if you wrote about Lenina and polygamy/monogamy in BNW, you can now use Lenina and another character from THT.

Guidelines SE 1 Period 4
  • You will write the essay on paper with pen. You may use paper to make a an outline during the exam, but keep in mind that you should have enough time to write the essay. Tip: Make an outline beforehand but you are not allowed to bring it.
  •  You are allowed to bring dictionaries and your books. You do NOT get a paper from us with quotes, but you should quote them directly from the books. Tip: Don't write in your book, but use sticky notes for the right pages. Quotes should be no longer than 20 words + use reference.

Guidelines SE 1 Period 4
  • You must indicate the edition of your book since there are multiple ones at school. You will have to do this in a bibliography at the bottom of the page
  • Reference style can be MLA but does not have to as long as you write down: title, author, publisher, year/edition.
  • Example: Atwood, Margaret. The Handmaid's Tale. New York :Anchor Books, a division of Penguin Random House LLC, 1998.

Guidelines SE 1 Period 4
-You will have 120 minutes (zonder verlenging)
- Use the first 15 minutes to recreate your outline, at least write down the thesis question + arguments you had in mind on a separate paper.
- Next focus on writing the essay. Remember that the body paragraphs are the most important to pay attention to.
- Again use the final 10/15 minutes to read through your essay. Proof reading is extremely important to see if you made any language or content mistakes.
- Use your dictionary as little as possible, it costs a lot of time! Make sure that you can find the quotes as fast as possible by adding sticky notes.

What are you going to do differently in the second practice essay compared to the first practice essay?

Slide 11 - Mind map

A few things to note....
- One could say OR the book explains OR Lenina is (just state it as a fact, we know that YOU are writing it.)
- The Brave New World? What is the planet called?
- The World State? Who are the ones in charge?
- omit contractions and make sure to use quotations!
- avoid using But or And at the beginning of a sentence.

Slide 12 - Slide

Finishing outline/ writing the essay
- Start writing the essay by using the outline you have made. The outline has to be correct  to write the essay.
- Start with the introduction, you do not need to have the full intro done in order to write the body paragraphs.
- Make sure to mention what you will do in the essay + the essay question in the intro. Use linking words to link the paragraphs.
