What is a NOUN?
A noun is a word for a person, animal, place or thing.
Example: doctor, cat, school, city, pen, bag.
Also things that you cannot see: hunger, love, pain, idea.

How can I be sure it is a NOUN?
Put
THE
before the word:

What is a VERB?
Often, verbs are easy to find. They show action:
run, laugh, eat, work,
etc.
Sometimes, verbs are not so easy to find...
When they do not show an action:
have, is, like, want, seem, do,
etc.

How can I be sure it is a VERB?
Put a PRONOUN (I, you, he) before the verb to see if that makes a correct sentence.
Example: We
sit
on the sofa.
Is SIT a VERB? Yes, because we can say 'I sit, you sit, he sits'
Is SOFA a VERB? No, because we can't say 'I sofa, you sofa'
