Past Simple vs Past Continuous
Past Simple1)WHEN is important (time mentioned) AND action is FINISHED
-> I ate a hamburger last night.
Form:
Irregular verbs -> 2nd form (ATE/WENT/DID/WAS/WERE)
Regular verbs -> Infinitive + ED (walked/talked/shopped)
Past Continuous
1) To talk about an activity in the past that was going on for a longer time (I was taking a bath last night. I was reading a book all evening).
To indicate that sth. was going on, when sth. else interrupted this (I was taking a bath when the phone rang. I was reading a book when he knocked on the door.)
2) To express irritation in tthe past
3) Future tense that was planned -> We were meeting John at six, but he cancelled our appointment.
Form: was/were + inf. + ING
