  • The text states that Rever will "spread the alarm/Through every Middlesex village and farm,/For the country folk to up and to arm"

  • I know that Revere is riding out of the city, and these lines tell me he is warning people living in the country.   
  • Based on the facts, Middlesex must be a place outside of Boston.
  • I have never heard of a colony called Middlesex so we can INFER that is a county including Boston.

  • He is spreading the alarm to "UP AND TO ARM"
  • This means that the villagers need to prepare to fight.
