Reading a text:

Skimming (exploring): 

only looking at the title, pictures, source, writer.

Scanning: 

looking  at the questions and finding answers in the text.

Various types of text (= verschillende soorten tekst):

For example:

- a newspaper article

- an article from a magazine

- an e-mail or blogpost

- an advertisment, etc. 

LOOK AT THE SOURCE AT THE TOP OR BOTTOM

Text structure

Usually:

1. title
2. introduction paragraph
3. body
4. conclusion
   But sometimes writers mix this up a bit!

Finding positive and negative statements in a text

Positive:

You see positive words such as: 'yes, it's wonderful, it's great, I like it, etc.

Negative: 

You see negative words such as: 'no, unfortunately, disappointment, disaster', etc.

You need: 

- Stepping stones text book, p. 26-27

- work book p. 37

Exercise 19, question 1 (p. 37 stepping stones work book): look at the layout, what kind of text is this?
