review: present simple
  • feiten en gewoontes
  • Adverbs of frequency : always, never, usually, often, sometimes
  • he/she/it: plak -s erachter

  • vindt NU plaats
  • signaalwoorden: at the moment, currently, as we speak, right now, "Look!", ....
  • vorm van "to be" + ww-ing

review: past simple
  • verleden tijd, afgelopen
  • signaalwoorden: yesterday, last week, last year, three days ago, a long time ago, in 1989, etc.
  • plak -ed achter de stam (regelmatige ww)
  • 2e rijtje (onregelmatige ww)

I ate pizza last Friday.          I was a student in 2015.

review: past continuous
  • was in het verleden gaande                   was / were + ww-ing
  • signaalwoorden: while, when, as, ...
  • zie je vaak samen met de past simple, of als twee dingen tegelijk 'aan de gang' waren. 

When I was watching TV, the doorbell rang.
While I was reading a book, she was doing the dishes.

review: present perfect
  • in het verleden begonnen en nu nog gaande
  • of: effect nu nog merkbaar 
  • ook: ervaringen in het algemeen (I've been to Croatia)
  • signaalwoorden: for, since, yet
  • have / has + voltooid deelwoord

We've been friends since 2004.         I've hurt my leg so badly!

Je kan op diverse manieren over iets praten dat in de toekomst gaat gebeuren:
  • Tomorrow, I am seeing my therapist / or: I will see my therapist
  • Next week, we will go to Paris  /  or: we are going to Paris.
  • The bus leaves in 30 minutes. (or: will leave in 30 minutes)

Review: Passive
The combination of 'to be' + past participle (volt. dlw) makes a sentence passive
The student is taught (by the teacher).
The man was bitten (by the dog).

How to recognize a passive sentence...
- check if there is a form of 'to be' used (am, are, is, was, were, been)
- is it followed by a participle (voltooid deelwoord)?
- is it followed by 'by + noun or pronoun? If not, can it be followed by 'by zombies'?
Are all answers 'yes'? Congratulations, you have a passive sentence.

Review: state verbs
Verbs that are usually only used in the present simple:
Verbs of thinking and opinions: believe, think, understand, suppose, expect, agree, doubt, know, remember, forget, promise, mean, imagine, deserve, guess.
Verbs of emotions: like, love, hate, care, hope, wish, want, prefer etc.

Some can be in continuous forms when it is about an activity.

I see what you mean VS I am seeing Nigel on Thursday.
