Module Overview
You will be working as a team to organise Supajam Brighton's next live music event!

  • The gig should be around 2 hours long and should feature performances/plays of the music you’ve created this year.

  • You can ask other levels/staff to perform as well, it’s up to you!

  • Make sure that you work to everyone’s strengths and that each area is covered, such as promotion, sound, performers, health and safety etc.

Slide 2 - Slide

Explain the role of the event coordinator and provide examples of their responsibilities.
Task 1: Event Planning
Without effective planning, your event won't happen!

Together, we will be looking at:
  • A definition of the event and its purpose
  • An identification of your personal aims in relation to the event
  • An assessment of your potential to contribute to the event
  • Identification of clear team goals, including definition of team roles
  • Assignment of tasks to different team members, based on an assessment of each student's interests and skill bases.

Let's get cracking!

Slide 3 - Slide

Describe the role of the venue manager and their importance in the success of the event.
Discussion: Defining the Event
The gig is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5th June in our base

What will the purpose of our event be? Will we have a theme?

Think about...
  • It's the first week back after half term
  • The week before Black Deer Festival
  • This is our last RSL module of the year
  • Summer is here!
  • Celebration of student achievements (live performances, recordings, DJ sets, podcasts etc)

Slide 4 - Slide

Explain the role of the sound engineer and provide examples of their responsibilities.
Discussion: Identifying Team Goals
We will need to agree our goals for the event as a team.

Think about...

Who will we invite to the gig? Is it just for Supajam Brighton students? Will we invite students from other bases? Will we invite friends/family? The local community? Prospective students (or those joining in September)?

Identifying some simple team goals will help us to define a role for each of you and assign tasks which will contribute to the smooth running of the event.

Slide 5 - Slide

Explain the role of the stage manager and provide examples of their responsibilities.

You will need to use Google to research your chosen job role! Think about...

  • What are your personal aims for participating?
