Introduction:

During this theme you will learn about World War 2 through the book 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas', and through mini-history lessons. 

You will learn about the five elements of a story, which you will use while writing a book assignment. These elements are: Setting, characterization, symbolism, conflict, and plot.

Grade/ Assessment:

ou will also improve your listening skills through an audiobook, documentaries, and fragments of film, which will help you prepare for your listening test.

The assessments during this theme are: 

• A book assignment on the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
  
• A listening test (topic: World War 2)
  

Book Assignments:

In total you will have to write 5 assignments. For each assignment you can receive 5 points. You will be scored on: 

• Spelling and vocabulary;
  
• Grammar and sentence structure;
  
• Effort put into the assignment;
  
• Word count;
  
• Creativity.

This period we will be reading the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Part of it will be read in class, but part of it you will have to read on your own.

We will start reading together and finish Chapter 1.

Work on first assignment:

You will now start on assignment 1 of the book assignment. Use the information you received during the lesson today, and look up more information online. Make sure you write everything in your own words.

First assigment:

Find this in the worksheet for lesson 1, week 1 as well:

Write an article on World War 2 in 200 words. Make sure to name important facts such as dates, people, and events.

Silently read Chapter 2 + 3 

Setting:

Social conditions, historical time, geographical locations, weather, immediate surroundings, and timing are all different aspects of setting.

Name one tv show or movie that you like and describe the setting (time, place, location etc..)

Homework:

• Read chapter 5 and 6
• Finish assignment 1 (200 words on World War 2)
• Do the assignment: 'Setting in the boy in the striped pyjamas' find the assignment in lesson 2, week 1. Bring your drawing to class next week.
