Today's goals:

1. I know words about my home and the place I live in, including prepositions of place.
2. I know how to use articles
3. I can answer questions about a girl living on a boat

Slide 2 - Slide

Something else first:
Tomorrow is the deadline for the cooking video.
Is there anything you want to tell me or ask me about this?
Careful: the deadline is 17:00 because I don't want you to have to work too late.

Slide 3 - Slide

Check your work
Turn to page 14 - 17.
Choose a partner with whom you DIDN'T work when you were doing the exercises.
Compare your answers. Are they the same? You're probably right. Different? See if you can figure out why.
I will do a class round in 8-10 minutes to see if anything is still unclear.

Articles (lidwoorden)
A / an
I have a test tomorrow, so I can't go out with you.
The
The English teacher said that the test would be easy.
DIT KAN BIJ WOORDEN IN HET ENKELVOUD EN HET MEERVOUD
Geen
lw

Slide 6 - Slide

A / an for jobs

My father is a builder, my mother is a nurse.

Slide 7 - Slide

No article or the
I am in the hospital - je bent in het gebouw
He lives near the school - bij het gebouw.
He goes to university - hij studeert er.

Slide 8 - Slide

A or an?

Uniform, university, hour, honest?
Dus?

Slide 9 - Slide

Time to move around a bit
In different places in the classroom there are four pieces of paper: one with a, one with an, one with the, one empty paper which means "no article".

I am going to show you a number of sentences. Which article should you use? Walk over to the correct place and stay there until the next sentence.

Our lottery dream home

Slide 26 - Slide

Picture this....
- Work with a partner. This whole activity is in English!
- You and your partner (let's imagine you're willing to share a home) have won a wonderful prize: you can have your dream home built, without ever having to look at the cost.
- Tomorrow, you have a meeting with the architect, the landscaping architect (for the garden) and the interior designer.
- Your job today: come up with an exact description of what your house should be like: what elements should it have? What things would have to be in the rooms?
- You have to agree on everything and you may have to compromise.
- You have fifteen minutes for this. Make sure you write down everything you decide on!
- I will tell you what your next assignment is when the fifteen minutes are over.

Slide 27 - Slide

Some language you could use:
"I would definitely want to have a .... (pool, hot tub, slide, firepit, indoor football pitch etc. "
"There should be a ...... (comfortable sofa / aquarium bed / walk-in closed) in ... "
"In the ...... (garden, living room, basement, bedroom)  I want there to be a ...... "
"I want to be able to ...... (play tennis / swim / exercise / have twenty-five cats / make my own icecream)"
"I would not want to ..... (do the dishes, walk too much, walk any stairs, go outside to get in the pool"

You can look up words online and of course you can ask me for help!

Slide 28 - Slide

Now what?
- Work with another pair.
- Make sure you have a piece of paper
- One of you describes your dream home to the other. The other pair draws what you tell them.
- Take turns doing this
- At the very end, I will ask some of you to describe the dream home and I will show off my phenomenal (...) drawing skills!
