Tips:

• Spreek extra duidelijk, want je ziet elkaar niet.
  
• Vraag om verduidelijking als je iemand niet verstaat.
  
• Leer standaardzinnetjes uit je hoofd.
  
• Glimlach als je spreekt, dan klink je vriendelijker.

Hoe geef je getallen door?

• Spreek alle getallen afzonderlijk uit (16 is one – six, niet sixteen).
  
• Het getal 0 mag je vertalen met zero en oh (00 = double oh).

Hoe zeg je: Kan ik een boodschap aannemen?

Informatie verzamelen

Ik bel naar aanleiding van ...	I’m calling about ...
Ik ben op zoek naar (informatie over) ...	I’m looking for (information about) ...
Ik heb een paar vragen over ...	I have a few questions about ...
Ik ga het voor u uitzoeken.	I’ll find out for you.

Practise with a classmate:

• A: Answer the phone correctly.
• B: Say hello and ask if Mr Green is available.
• A: Say Mr Green isn't there and ask if he can call back later.
• B: Agree to that.
• A: Ask for the name and phonenumber of your classsmate.
  
• B: Give the information.
• A: Repeat the information and say goodbye correctly
  
  Switch roles!

What should I do if I don't understand te person I'm talking to?

1. Tell them: "I'm afraid I don't understand"
2. Ask them to repeat what they said.
3. Ask them to speak a bit slower.
4. Hang up the phone.

Vragen om herhaling of verduidelijking

Ik ben bang dat ik het niet begrijp.	I’m afraid I don’t understand.
Zou u dat misschien willen herhalen?	Could you repeat that for me, please?
Zou u wat langzamer willen praten?	Could you speak more slowly, please?
Zou u dat kunnen uitleggen?	Could you explain that?
