Armed robbers have escaped with an unknown quantity of cash in a daylight raid on a bank in Central District, Hong Kong.
It is thought that at least ten million Hong Kong dollars (US$ 1.3 million) in cash and other valuables were taken but the bank has not yet revealed how much.
A large area of Central District was sealed off bringing traffic to a standstill. However, all of the thieves managed to escape. One customer told reporters, ‘We were told to lie on the floor and that if anyone moved they would be shot.’
Police arrived within minutes after shots were heard coming from inside the bank and a member of the public dialled 999.
Detective Superintendent Andy Chan of B Division later made a statement saying that no arrests had been made so far but he was confident the men would be found soon.
