What are question tags?

= korte aangeplakte vragen, in het Nederlands "toch?" of "he?" 

We are a good team, aren't we? 

I am not a very good football player, am I?

This book is very good, isn't it?

How to form question tags (1)

1.  hoofdzin bevestigend = tag ontkennend 

    hoofdzin ontkennend = tag bevestigend 

She is beautiful, isn't she?

My brother isn't that smart, is he?

2. Als er een hulpwerkwoord (do, be, have) in de hoofdzin staat, gebruik je die ook in je tag! 

He is a good football player, isn't he?

We aren't late for class, are we?

3. Je gebruikt in je tag altijd een personal pronoun, geen namen! 

Lisa is my best friend, isn't she?

My brother and I aren't late for the train, are we?

How to form question tags (4)

Er is 1 uitzondering waar je op moet letten. 

Als je een ontkennende tag van I am maakt!

I am smart, aren't I?  (dus niet amn't I of zo!)

I am not smart, am I? 

Waar moet je allemaal aan denken bij het maken van tag questions?

Make sentences with a tag question. 

1. That girl - not to be - a great hockey player 

--> That girl isn't a great hockey player, is she?

2. I - to be - stronger than you

3. That football team - not to be - very good 

4. The swimmers - to be - very fast 

Answer key 

1. That girl - not to be - a great hockey player 

--> That girl isn't a great hockey player, is she?

2. I - to be - stronger than you

--> I am stronger than you, aren't I? 

3. That football team - not to be - very good 

--> That football team isn't very good, is it? (team = het!) 

4. The swimmers - to be - very fast 

--> The swimmers are very fast, aren't they?
