(gonna is spreektaal voor going to)

Als je over de toekomst praat, kun je 'to be going to + hele ww' gebruiken:

(1) bij plannen die al gemaakt waren vóór het moment van spreken:

I am going to visit John this afternoon. He expects me at 3 p.m.

(2) als er op het moment van spreken aanwijzingen zijn dat iets in de toekomst gaat gebeuren:

Look at those dark clouds. It’s going to rain.

Carol and John ............................... their grandmother in the hospital today.

Als je over de toekomst praat, kun je ook 'will + hele ww' gebruiken.

(1) als je een beslissing neemt op het moment van spreken:

Do you think John is at home? Then I will call him to see if we can visit this afternoon.

I think I’ll go to bed early.

(2) bij een wens, veronderstelling, belofte, aanbod, verzoek of voorspelling:

He will not be on time. He’s always late.

Those boxes look heavy, John. I’ll help you carry them.

We probably won’t get there on time.

In vragen kun je will óf shall gebruiken

Shall gebruik je alleen met I en we. Shall wordt vooral gebruikt om te vragen naar een mening, bij voorstellen, en om iets aan te bieden:

Shall we go shopping this weekend?

Shall I help you carry that?
