Ss also practise the pronunciation of -ed endings of regular verbs. Ss then learn more time phrases, which extends what they learnt in Unit 4. The lesson ends with a speaking activity, where Ss discuss the last time they did things and how often they do those things now.

Give Ss an example, e.g. ‘I didn’t stay in a hotel last year, but I stayed in a very nice hotel in the summer.’ Ss work individually to change any sentences they need to. Monitor and check Ss are forming their sentences correctly.
Ask Ss to expand on their answers in Ex 4C as much as possible, e.g. ‘Last year, I lived somewhere different. I was in Warsaw, but we moved here at the start of the year.’
