woorden van 1 lettergreep

• Hij is groter dan ik ben. --> He is bigger than I am.
  big --> bigger --> biggest
• Mijn kat is liever dan de jouwe. --> My cat is sweeter than yours.
  sweet --> sweeter --> sweetest

comparatives & superlatives

woorden van 2 of meer lettergrepen

• English is more interesting than maths.
• But science is the most interesting.
  
  
• My friend is more grateful than my sister.
• But my Grandma is the most grateful.

Comparatives & superlatives

Use 'less' for long adjectives

• These jeans are less expensive than those jeans
• This book is less interesting than your book

Uitzonderingen! woorden van 2 lettergrepen eindigend op:

• - y        --> easy                  --> easier           --> easiest
• -le       --> gentle              --> gentler          --> gentlest
• - ow   --> shallow            --> shallower     --> shallowest
• -er      --> clever               --> cleverer         --> cleverest
• -some --> handsome   --> handsomer  --> handsomest

Deze woorden krijgen WEL -er/est i.p.v. more/most!

• far - further - furthest

Comparisons

Als er teveel is...

• This is too  good to be true.
• She is too nice to her daughter. 

Too = VOOR het bijv. nw.

Als er (niet) genoeg is....

• He was kind enough to help me out.
• They were not funny enough to make them smile. 

ENOUGH = NA het bijv. nw
