Past simple general rule
Past simple = 
Subject + hele werkwoord + -ed

I worked all day.
He walked to the supermarket.

Je gebruikt voor alle personen dezelfde vorm. 
Er is dus geen onderscheidt tussen I, he, she, it, we, you, they.

Subject + did / didn't + hele werkwoord

Je gebruikt dus niet de past simple vorm van het werkwoord, maar het'gewone', hele werkwoord.

Als er gevraagd wordt om een vorm van to be te gebruiken in combinatie met de past simple gebruiken we was of were

I/ he / she / it  > was
You / we / they > were 

Let op! bij ontkenningen en vragen met to be gebruik je geen did/didn't. Je gebruikt gewoon de past simple vorm van to be. 
I wasn't / was not late. 
Were they angry?
