Als een werkwoord eindigt op -e, dan komt er in de past simple alleen een -d achter:
I live - I lived
you move - you moved


In de past simple wordt de laatste medeklinker verdubbeld als er één klinker voor staat:
I drop - I dropped
they plan - they planned

Onregelmatige werkwoorden hebben geen regelmatige uitgang. Bijvoorbeeld: go → went. 

Er zijn veel onregelmatige werkwoorden, dus het is belangrijk om ze te leren. (blz 209t/m 211)
