Slide 1 - Slide

Tag questions
- A question at the end of your sentence to ask for confirmation or denial
- Comparable to the dutch 'Toch?' or 'of niet?' at the end of a sentence
- Positive and negative are switched around
- With 'am', 'is', 'are' & 'can' --> Repeat the verb
- Every other verb you use 'do'

If the sentence is positive the tag question is negative:
"He is a strict teacher, isn't he?"

If the sentence is negative the tag question is positive:
"You aren't paying attention, are you?"

Repeat the verb with:
He is famous, isn't he?
You aren't recording this, are you?
You guys can do this, can't you?

How to write something in present simple?

Whole verb without -ing
(e.g. walking --> walk)

The he/she/it gets an s

I walk
You walk
He/she/it walks

We walk

When to use present simple
Something short happens right now
Something is a habit
Something is a general truth
Something is a permanent situation

How to write something in present continuous?

'to be' + -ing form
(e.g. walking)

Make sure the form of 'to be' is the correct one

I am walking
You are walking
He/she/it is walking

We are walking
You are walking
They are walking

When to use present continuous?
Activities that are currently going on (longer than with the present simple) but has a clear end.

Something that keeps happening over and over

- Pair up
- Make statements using a tag question
- The other person tries to disagree as creatively as possible
