Slide 1 - Slide

At the end of the lesson you:
- know why you should summarize a book
- can explain how to summarize a book

Slide 2 - Slide

Let me explain...
• Read the book and understand it
• In each chapter, take notes on important events and names
• Take notes on clue words or keywords

Slide 3 - Slide

Read the book and understand it
This crucial step is the way to summarize the text. Without thorough understanding, you may have to spend a lot of time in going back to the chapters. With comprehension, you can independently retell the story without going back to the chapters one by one.

Slide 4 - Slide

In each chapter take notes on the most important events and names

By taking down notes of significant events, places, and names in the book, you can use your summary to study. The day before the test you only have to read your summary.

Slide 5 - Slide

Take notes on clue words or keywords
These words can be used later in summarizing because these words also carry important messages presented by the author in his/her book. The booktest will check if you actually read the book by asking for keywords or specifics on certain characters.
