Adjective: zegt iets over wat iets is.

She is wearing a beautiful dress.

Adverb: zegt iets over hoe iets gebeurd.

She sings beautifully.

Formule:

bijvoeglijk naamwoord + ly   

good - well

fast - fast

Niet alle adverbs eindigen op -LY -> Dit zijn ook adverbs: always, never, still en often.

Plaats:

- Vóór bijv. naamwoord of  ander bijwoord.            You're going to be extremely popular. 

                                                                                                     She works really seriously on the journal.

- Vóór het hoofdwerkwoord.                                         She regularly asks me to write for her website.     

- Na een vorm van to be.                                                 I am truly sorry.

                                                                                                    It is not exactly a sin to chew gum. 

Spellingsuitzonderingen:

Medeklinker + y = - ily              Funny -> funnily

-le ->- ly                                        Gentle -> gently

-ic -> -ically                                  Ironic -> ironically

- ue -> - uly                                  true -> truly

-LL -> - LLy                                   full -> fully
