Past Simple
You studied the past simple in first and second year.

When to use the past simple?
When talking about finished actions in the past. 
I ate fruit this morning.
Martha called the doctor last week.

How to use the past simple (form)

Regular verbs: Add -ed to the verb:
dance – danced, play – played, laugh – laughed

Irregular verbs
These verbs don’t follow the rules. You will have to learn them separately 
go - went, have - had, eat - ate 
Check the Irregular Verb list in IL!

Signal Words
Watch out for words that express a past moment, like:
  • Yesterday
  • Last week
  • Specific dates (May 23, September 2021)
  • Last summer
With these words in the sentence, we always use the past simple
