Comparatives en superlatives zijn de trappen van vergelijking.
De comparative is de vergrotende trap, waarbij je twee dingen met elkaar vergelijkt. My sister is older than my brother.
De superlative is de overtreffende trap, waarbij je drie of meer dingen met elkaar vergelijkt: my iPhone is the most expensive thing I own.

Voor woorden van één lettergreep en woorden van twee lettergrepen die eindigen op medeklinker + y gebruiken we -er en the ...... -est Norway is cold, Russia is colder, Antarctica is the coldest.
My cat is lazy, yours is lazier, my friend's cat is the laziest.
Voor woorden van twee of meer lettergrepen (behalve die hierboven op y) gebruiken we more & the ...... most.
This phone is expensive, that one is more expensive, the newest iPhone is the most expensive

Bij vergelijken schrijf je than met een a! (then met een e gaat over tijd)
Als je met more / most werkt verandert het bijvoeglijk naamwoord niet. Dus: hot / hotter Maar NIET more expensiver / the most expensivest
