The estates

• System from the Middle Ages 
• First estate: clergy
• Second estate: nobility
• Third estate: the rest

• The third is the only who pays all the taxes
  
• The first and second estates decide how to use the taxes

Emphasize that this system is in place since the Middle Ages, but society had changed immensely since then, especially the third estate.
