Make groups of 4.

Read the selected poems and fragments on page 25 - 27 and consider the message each writer is trying to convey.
Then, identify all the instances of metaphor, simile and analogy.
Write down your answers.

Cocktail time - how realistic is that idea?

Absences - about memories and the unability to stay in a moment forever.

The base stealer - describes a basketball player who, during the game, is reflecting on whether or not to steal a base. It may refer to any experience in which a person may feel ‘pulled both ways’ – hovering between feelings of excitement, hope and anxiety. 
Full of similes (see line 2, 4 and 8 for examples)

Find the poet within yourself
In pairs, write a(n) (extended) metaphor.
Alternate turns providing an object and its comparison.
Make the comparisons as elaborate, eccentric and unusual as possible!

Decide on your best work (to be shared with the rest of the class).
