Wanneer gebruik je een 's?

 enkelvoud (bij een personen, dieren, tijd) - een 's:

 Mary's phone, boy's pen, the cat's tail, last week's newspaper

Wanneer gebruik je alleen een ' (apostrof) ?

Niet vaak en alleen als het woord een meervoud is en eindigt op een s
my sisters' cats (de katten van mijn zussen)
our parents' holiday  (de vakantie van mijn ouders)

woorden die meervoud zijn en niet eindigen op een s, krijgen geen apostrof maar apostrof 's, the  women's clothes (kleding van de vrouwen)

"OF".

Bij dingen gebruik je het woordje 'of' bijvoorbeeld:

the roof of the house

 the centre of Leeuwarden

a glass of orange juice
