Past Continuous

In 'continuous' zit het woordje 'continu', wat 'voortdurend' betekent. Iets duurt dus een tijdje.

In dit geval dus in de 'past' of 'verleden tijd'

Past Continuous

Vorm

Voor een juiste 'past continuous' heb je dus nodig:

was/were                 +                     ww       + ing

was: I en SHIT

were: de rest

Het betekent dus dat je 'een tijdje iets aan het doen was'.

Spellingregels

Er zijn een paar spellingregels. Eigenlijk ken je die al:

- stop - stopping: bij een korte klinker verdubbelt de medeklinker.

- live - living: eindigt een werkwoord op een e, dan verdwijnt deze bij de -ing vorm.

Past simple en Past continuous

Soms moet je ook kiezen tussen een past simple en een past continuous.

Past simple: iets gebeurde in het verleden, maar het is niet belangrijk hoe lang dat duurde.

past continuous: iets gebeurde in het verleden en het duurde een tijdje.

Past Simple/continuous

Past Simple:                         ww +ed        OF                rijtje 2

Past Continuous:         was/were          +           ww  + ing

Soms was iets een tijdje bezig en toen gebeurde er plotseling iets anders (kijk goed naar het woordje 'when').

I WAS READING a book when the doorbell RANG.

She WAS SLEEPING when her brother STORMED into the room.

Past Simple/continuous

past continuous:         was/were          +           ww  + ing

Soms waren er 2 dingen tegelijkertijd bezig. Je gebruikt dan het woordje 'while' i.p.v. when.

I WAS READING a book while my mum WAS COOKING.

She WAS SLEEPING while they WERE WATCHING tv.
