Modal verbs 
Om aan te geven dat je iets kan, moet, mag, zou moeten, niet mag, niet kan etc. gebruik je modale hulpwerkwoorden oftewel modal verbs. 

Een modal verb in zijn eentje komt niet voor: er volgt altijd een ander werkwoord op. Je mag IETS niet, je moet IETS. Dat IETS geef je aan door een ander werkwoord.

Would like        I would like to eat pizza tonight
Can                     He can speak French.
Could                Could you tell me what time it is? 
                             (verleden tijd & beleefde vorm van ‘Can’)
