What is Sinterklaas?

How would you explain this to an Englishman?

Exercise 1:

When celebrating Sinterklaas, a lot of people write a poem or a Rhyme. 

In English, try to write such a poem.

Example:

Sinterklaas his cape and clothes are red, Piet his clothes are blue,

I was thinking about what to give to you.

The weather is getting colder, put this new scarf over your shoulder.

It was really tough to buy a present in a store,

I just want to give you a hug, so you feel much warmer than before.

Exercise 2:

In the Uk, we don’t celebrate ‘’Sinterklaas’’. 

Julie lives in London, she wrote you a letter. 

1. Read the letter.

2. Write a letter to Julie and answer all of her questions about Sinterklaas.

Recently I read about a Dutch holiday called Sinterklaas.

I looked it up and I saw a man on a horse. He looked similar to Santa Claus, are they the same person? If not, what is the difference between them? What does Sinterklaas do? Are there special gatherings for families, like with Christmas?; during Christmas we sing together, play games, have dinner and we decorate the house.

What else could you tell me about this holiday? Do you think we should celebrate Sinterklaas too?
