Do NOT use these when you write in English:

'gonna', 'wanna', , 'cause', 'u'and 'lemme'.

Instead you say:

'going to', 'want to', 'because', 'you' and 'let me'.

Explain what shortened words are and give examples. Have students practice writing sentences with shortened words.
