What: We are working on number skills. 


How: Some of us will be focusing on recognising and matching numbers. Some of us will work on arrays, understanding what they are and how numbers can be organised in groups to help us count them.


Why: Because working with numbers is a life skill. If you do not understand numbers or how to work with them, then a task like counting out money will be impossible.

An array is when you organise objects into neat rows and columns.

What is multiplication? 
Multiplication seems scary, but it is just counting in groups. 

It makes counting quicker. 





Why is that important?
If you can count in 2's for example, this is the 2 times tables. Counting in 2's means you could count 2p or £2 coins when you are shopping.

Making arrays 
Around the room are lots of stations with objects that need organising into arrays. Go to a station, look at how I would like you to organise them, such as: 

"Please put the pens into 4 groups of 3

Organise the items. Can you write the sum?

4 groups of 3 is the same as: 4 x 3 

Can you give an answer?  4 X 3 = 12

Roll two dice. The dice will be the array you need to make.

Write on your sheet the sum you have shown on your pop it board. 
If you can, give an answer to the sum. 
Activity 2
LA - pop whole numbers. Pop two numbers added together.

MA - roll two dice. use 2x tiles to create sums.

HA - roll two dice, include 10 sided dice.  Use 5x tiles to create sums.
