Learning objectives
- You can identify the three main parts of the nervous system.
- You can identify the parts of the brain and describe their function.
Slide 7 - Slide
Answer the question
I will explain the nervous system to you.
During this explanation you have to answers the next three questions. Write the questions down in your notebook.
What are the main parts of the nervous system
How can you divide the central nervous system.
Write down the names of the labelled parts of the brain.
Slide 8 - Slide
The nervous system
The nervous system is made up of:
the central nervous system
--> Brain + spinal cord
the nerves.
the nerves connect the central nervous system to all parts of the body.
Slide 9 - Slide
The Nervous system
The nervous system controls your muscles
-walk / write / exercise
-swallowing / blinking / breathing
-Central nervous system
-Peripheral nervous system
Slide 10 - Slide
The central nervous system is divided into two major parts: the brain and the spinal cord.
The Peripheral nervous system
Slide 11 - Slide
The peripheral nervous system
This nervous system contains
all of the nerves in your body.
Slide 12 - Slide
Spinal cord
The nerves connect the central nervous system to all parts of the body.
Impulses are passed to the brain through nerves in the spinal cord. The spinal cord starts at the brain and ends in the lumbar vertebrae in the lower back.

Slide 13 - Slide
How does the nervous system work?
Notes:
Sensory cell receive stimulus from outside (for example chocolate)
Sensory cells = impulses
nerves
brain
muscles
Slide 14 - Slide
The brain
Cerebrum: processes impulses + memories
Cerebellum: coordinates your movements + maintains balance.
Brain stem: connects brain to spinal cord + automatic functions.

Slide 16 - Slide
Fill out the form if you're not done yet.
Discuss with your answers with 1 or 2 classmates.
Someone is randomly chosen to give the answer.
Slide 17 - Slide

Elevator pitch
You'll have to give a one minute speech about the nervous system with all of the new words.
Practice with your neighbor.
3 students will be randomly selected to give the speech.
