Wanneer gebruik je de Present Continuous?

De Present Continuous gebruik je om aan te geven dat 

iets nu aan de gang is.

De Present Continuous kan ook voor de toekomst gebruikt worden, maar dat komt later. 

Hoe maak je de Present Continuous?

De Present Continuous maak je met een vorm van ‘to be’ (am/are/is) 

gevolgd door werkwoord + ing

Voorbeeld: I am walking, she is talking, we are swimming

Let op! Uitzondering wanneer je een werkwoord hebt dat eindigt op een –e, dan laat je de –e weg voor je de –ing toevoegt.

Voorbeeld: He is writing (to write)

Signaalwoorden

Er kunnen woorden in de zin staan die aangeven dat het Present Continuous:

Now, currently, at the moment, Look!/Listen! (werkwoord + ! begin van een zin).

- Voorbeelden:

• I am walking to the park right now.

• Kate is having a bath now.

• They are playing golf at the moment.

• Look! The dogs are running after the rabbit.

• The plane is currently flying over our heads.

De vragende en ontkennende vorm van de Present Continuous

Vraagvorm: am/are/is + hele werkwoord met -ing 

Am I looking? Is she talking?

Ontkennende vorm: am/are/is + not + hele werkwoord met -ing 

I am not looking. She is not talking.
