Welcome
pairs:one danish, one dutch

sit down quietly, breathe slowly

Who are fittest? The Dutch or the Danish??

Slide 1 - Slide

Lesson plan
  • measure resting heart rate
  • exercise
  • measure heart rate over 5 minutes

change roles and repeat

Slide 2 - Slide

Reasting heart rate
  • sit down quietly
  • breathe evenly
  • short pause after inhale and exhale

listen to explanation

Slide 3 - Slide

Measure heart rate
  • look for the two tendons in the wrist
  • press index and middle finger down just beside these tendons (thumb side)
  • vary pressure slowly until you feel a pulse
  • count.

reverse roles and repeat

write down resting heart rates for both people (beats per minute)

timer
1:00

Slide 4 - Slide

How to measure after exercise
  • open a stopwatch app that can record lap times (native app phone)
  • observer will measure the pulse and say 'yes' every 20 heartbeats
  • test subject will press 'lap' with every 'yes'.

Slide 5 - Slide

Action!
  • test subject will do the exercises on the next video (don't worry, we'll reverse roles)
  • test subject will press start and laps on stopwatch.
  • observer will be ready to measure heart beats (say yes every 20 beats)

Hoe goed is je conditie?
In de volgende dia's gaan we de resultaten bespreken.

Alle vragen zijn anoniem, je klasgenoten kunnen op het bord niet zien wat jij hebt ingevuld.

Slide 12 - Slide

who in your pair has the lowest resting heart rate??
The Dutch
The Danish

Slide 13 - Poll

who in your pair has the highest heart rate directly after the exercise? (=shortest time needed for 20 beats)
The Dutch
The Danish

Slide 14 - Poll

convert times to heartrate

20*60(s)/ lap time (s)
or
1200/lap time (s)

calculate 'recovery'

HR after 5 minutes rest / resting HR

Slide 15 - Slide

who in your pair recovered fastest after the exercise? (lowest 'recovery')
The Dutch
The Danish

Slide 16 - Poll

Good fitness
Low resting heart rate
Lower maximum heart rate
Fast adaptation to rest/activity

How is this possible?

Slide 17 - Slide

Discuss health guidelines for exercise in your country. How much/ what type of exercise is good?

Slide 18 - Mind map

Netherlands

  • At least one hour mild exercise each day (Walking, cycling, swimming)
  • At least three times a week strength enhancing exercises
