1. ... als (deel van het) onderwerp, dus als zelfstandig naamwoord

• Criticising others is so easy.

2. ... na werkwoorden die een mening uitdrukken, zoals to hate, to like, to love, to prefer, to enjoy, etc.

• I enjoy reading a good book.

3. ... na bepaalde werkwoorden zoals to stop, to avoid, to remember, to refuse, to mind, to keep, to spend, to continue, to begin, etc

• You really should stop biting your nails!

4. ... na voorzetsels als about, without, to, from,        for, on, of, after, before, while, at, etc.
