Standard procedures are:

- (Name ship or callsign) this is (name ship or callsign)
This is said 3 times when starting the conversation so to be sure that the other side hears you.

- Radio check
We do this to make sure that both parties involved can understand and hear each other correctly. This way there shouldn't be any miscommunication.

- Ending your sentence with “over”
We do this so that the other side knows that you are finished with talking and that it is their turn.

- The use of “roger”
We use roger when we have understood the other person. So, when you get an order, you respond with “roger”.

- The use of “say again"
We use this when you didn't understand the other person or when you didn't hear it correctly.

- Ending the conversation with “out”
When someone ends their sentence with “out” it means that the conversation is ended.
