Some and any

Any is used in negative and question sentences

some is used in 'normal' sentences

"I have to do some homework"

"There is some food in the fridge"

Some is also used if you offer or make a request something and expect the answer to be 'yes'

"Can I have some candy?"

"Do you want some cake?"
