Starting a war

After the attack, the US government accuses the terrorist group al-Qaeda, whose leader is Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden is hiding in Afghanistan, where al-Qaeda is in power. About a month after the attack, the United States start a war against Afghanistan.

Who is this?

Slide 13 - Open question

George W. Bush --- Osama Bin Laden

Slide 14 - Slide

Multiple wars
After 3 years, the war is still in full swing and bin Laden has still not been found. According to the US, Iraq has weapons of mass destruction and ties to al-Qaeda, which is why the US also declares war on Iraq. In retrospect it appears that there was never any evidence for this. These wars create a lot of instability in the Middle East. This is how new rebel groups arise in countries.

What could be another reason for America to attack Iraq?

Slide 16 - Mind map

The whole world has changed since 2001. In the Netherlands there is a fear of terror. Some Dutch people are increasingly critical of Islam and political parties are emerging that respond to those fears and insecurities. More attacks from al-Qaeda are coming. In 2004, four passenger trains were blown up in Madrid and a year later there were several attacks on London's public transport.

9/11 Fake?
- A theory that they were actually shot with rockets and explosives were planted.

- A second theory is that the American government knew this for a long time but did nothing to prevent the attacks so that the president would anyway receive support to invade Afghanistan.
