'The passive'
Wat betekent 'passief' eigenlijk?

Slide 1 - Open question

The government recently announced new measure to deal with rising crime

New measures were recently announced to deal with rising crime

Slide 2 - Slide

Het onderwerp 'doet' iets
--> actief
Het onderwerp 'doet' niet zelf iets --> passief

Slide 3 - Slide

In het Nederlands:
Active sentence --> actieve/bedrijvende zin
De leerlingen plagen de docent.

Passive sentence --> passieve/lijdende zin
De docent wordt geplaagd (door de leerlingen).

Slide 4 - Slide

Bijvoorbeeld:

The package was delivered yesterday. (het doet er niet toe door wie).
My bike has been stolen. (je weet niet door wie)

Slide 5 - Slide

Hoe maak je de passive?
De passive bestaat uit:
vorm van 'to be' + voltooid deelwoord

The rules are written on the board (by the teacher).
The song was played three times (by the dj).
The wall has been painted green (by my dad).

Slide 6 - Slide

Slide 7 - Open question

Voltooid deelwoord:
  • regelmatige ww:  hele ww + ed   (play  -->  played)
  • onregelmatige ww: 3e vorm   (fly  --> flew --> flown)

Slide 8 - Slide

Hoe herken je een passive?
  1. Staat er een vorm van 'to be'?
    (am/are/is/was/were/have been/ has been/ had been/is being/etc.)
  2. Staat daarna een voltooid deelwoord? (played, broken etc.)
  3. Staat daarna 'by ....'? Zoniet, kun je 'by zombies' erachter
    zetten?
The poor girl was killed (by zombies).

From active to passive...
The cat chases the mouse.

'The mouse' wordt onderwerp van de passieve zin --> komt vooraan te staan
'chases' is een present simple --> present simple van "to be" --> is
The mouse is chased by the cat.

  3. Gebruik deze tijd voor het ww 'to be' in de nieuwe zin.
