-For writing to people you know.
Friends, family, reactions on social media
-Abbreviations are allowed, but not advised to use in exams.

Whereas in a formal letter you have to write formally (makes sense), you are allowed to use simple and more informal language in a formal writing piece.

Let's practice:
Respond to the letter in about 10 sentences.
-Write about your life now.

The formal letter
Basics
The formal letter needs to be structured in a set way.
You have to follow the 'rules' with this kind of letter.

Look at the structure and see what you MUST include in your letter (both formal or letters of application).

Remember this!

Dear Miss Booij / Dear Mrs Booij (You know the name)
Or Dear sir/madam (you don't know the name)

You always end with: Your faithfully (Don't know name) or your sincerely (You know the name)
