Writing an informal email

You write an informal email or a letter to people you know.

Such as your friends, family or teachers.

Writing an informal email
An email has 5 main parts:
  1. Header 
  2. Salutation
  3. Body 
  4. Closing sentence
  5. Name

1. Header

From : who sent you an email

To : the email address of the person 
         you are sending the email to                          

Subject: what your email is about

2. Salutation (aanhef)

You can start your email several ways.

"Dear + name,"      when you know someone, but not that well

"Hello  + name," or "Hi + name,"     when you know someone (very) well

  • 3. Body  - In the body you write your message. This could be about a number of topics; asking questions, inviting a friend or just sharing information. (2/3 alinia's)
  • 4. Closing sentence -  Hope to hear from you /Hope to hear from you soon or I hope you write back soon.
  • 5. Closing + your name
  • All best, / Best wishes, Best regards /Love, / Kisses / Yours ...

Always proofread your email and check:
Is there a clear and specific subject ?
Have you entered the email address to the person you are writing to?
Salutation
Closing sentence 
Proper ending
Does each sentence start with a capital? 
Punctuation 
Have you covered all topics you want to write about? ( Inhoud elementen)
