Wanneer gebruik je wel en wanneer geen "the"?

GEEN THE:

- Voor leden van een groep. 
 

 People think English people are
 very polite.

- Na ‘both’, ‘all’ en ‘most’:
 

 Both classes like English.

- Wanneer iemand de enige is met een bepaalde “titel”:
 

 This is Queen Elizabeth.

(Er zijn niet meer Queens in Engeland bijvoorbeeld.)

- Voor continenten, landen, plaatsnamen, straten en meren:
 Mount Everest is very big.

- Vaste uitdrukking (GS 20)
 

 We are going by bus.

WEL THE:

 - Als je praat over de groep als geheel:
 

 The English are hard to beat
 at rugby.



- Wanneer ‘the’ standaard in de plaatsnaam staat:
 

 The Netherlands is a small country.

Wanneer je de nadruk legt op iets:
