How do you approach a text in a reading test?

Read the text

A text consists of 4 parts:

  1.  Introduction of the  subject.
  2.  Arguments
  3. . Experts
  4. Examples

Examples
How do you know that something is an example? 

Look for Names, places, numbers, percentages, data.
Look for the word "illustrate"in the question.
Look for the "how does this relate to...."type of questions. 
What is the purpose of this example?

Step by step for ABCD question
1.  Title, picture, intro ======== The main idea ( big picture)

2. Read the question and highlight/ underline the paragraph that question is about.  Can you find other useful information in the question?

3. Read the text and highlight any signal words. "and, to, actually, also, before, both... and .... , at least as a result of. etc.

4. Take the pindakaas answers out. 

5. How often does the answer occur? Does all the elements in the answer make sense?  Does it fit in with the main idea?
