Past perfect:

Om aan te geven dat iets eerder gebeurd is dan iets anders in het verleden. Voorbeeld:

Je gebruikt used to + hele werkwoord om te zeggen dat iets vroeger zo was (en nu niet meer) of dat iets in het verleden een gewoonte was. Voorbeeld:

I used to volunteer at the animal shelter.

Je gebruikt one of ones als je een zelfstandig naamwoord dat eerder (in de zin) is benoemd wilt herhalen of wilt vervangen.

Voorbeeld:
