Columbus
  • The Portugese earned a lot of money.
  • Christopher Columbus was an Italian merchant. He had a plan to go to India, but not through the east but through the west.
  • No one wanted to give him money exept King Ferdinand II van Aragon of Spain.

  • When Colubus discoverd central America he called the natives "Indians". 
  • Most tribes were hunter gatherers. There were some exceptions. 
  • Two tribes lived in large cities and had an higly developed society.
  • These tribes were called the Aztecs and the Incas.

  • The Aztecs and Inca's used a lot of gold in their artwork. 
  • When the Spanish found out about all the gold they went on to take it for themselfs.
  • The soldiers who tried to conquer Central America were called conquistadores.

  • The Aztecs first thought the Spanish were gods.
  • Cortés first became "friends" with the Aztecs.
  • When they opened their cities the Spanish wiped them out using their modern weapons.
Francisco Pizarro

  • He also wanted to get the gold of the Inca's.
  • He tricked the Incan emperor, and captured him.
  • After collecting the ransom, Pizarro killed the emperor.

  • Not just the iron swords and guns killed a lot of Indians.
  • The Spanish brought disease with them.
  • Around 80% of the Aztecs died of smallpox.
