The free edge is the portion of the nail which you file, shape and cut.
The cuticle is found at the base of the nail, when this grows over the nail plate, we push back and trim the excess. 
The lunula is the only visible part of the matrix.  It is also commonly known as the 'half moon' and is not visible on every fingernail.
The nail bed is protected by the nail plate and one of it's functions is to support the nail plate.
