Prefix

A word part added to the beginning of a root word.

By adding the prefix, 

you make a whole new word!

Before M and P,  in-  usually changes to im-: impossible

Before R, in-  usually changes to ir-: irresponsible 

Before I, in- usually changes to il-: illogical
